Narrative:
Our agents have encountered the individual known as "8 Ball" several times since the Rikti invasion but have not managed to gain anything more than an initial assesment on him. We were able to learn his true name through a mutant scout we have placed in Paragon city's public school system (see Agent #435X report file# 2004-8975AZ).
Marcus Dathomir was a basketball coach at Paragon North High school prior to the invasion. Our agent noticed his energy siphoning abilities early on in Marcus'coaching career. During games he coached, the opposing team would appear weakened an unable to concentrate whereas his team would appear suddenly recharged & energetic. It is unknown whether this energy transfer was intentional or whether his abilites were controlled subconsciously. Our department was not aware of any secondary abilities until much later.
The pivitol moment of Marcus' life & the beginning of his career as "8 Ball" appears to be the Rikti invasion. Marcus Dathomir resided in the "Silent Angel" district of downtown Paragon. As we know this was one of the first & hardest hit areas of the alien invasion. Marcus also was married & had a son (see deceased: Angela & Josh Dathomir) who died early on in the invasion.
The death of his family seemed to have motivated Marcus to join the fight against the Rikti. "8 Ball" can be observed in company footage (video file 8Ball-23a) using his abilities against the Rikti. In one clip 8 Ball is able to drain energy from an entire squad of Rikti infranty and transfer that energy to a group of nearby heroes. His power blast ability was also observed for the first time here (see abilities).
Much of Marcus' life prior to our agents initial encounter with him remains unknown. It is this reports recommandation that we assign an agent to "8 Ball for surviellance purposes.
Abilities:
"8 Ball" is believed to be a mutant (one who is born with their powers) but until this can be proven through a sample (reminder to BioLab: obtain Genetic Sample of subject: 8 Ball) it cannot be confirmed. His primary powers seem to be Defender-Kinetic based. He has been observed to have the ability of siphoning & transferring energies from other living beings. The extent of this power is still unknown to our department.
"8 Ball" has also been observed with an ability to manipulate energy blasts. Again the extent of this ability is also unknown until further observation can be made. In our footage we also captured what appeared to be a "teleport" by 8 Ball, this was only a short range teleport to avoid foes. Whether this is an added Mutation or a technologial device he possess is also still unknown to us.
Initial Threat assesment is Low/Moderate Moderate until more surviellance is conducted. In the meantime This subject is to be placed in the Active File until further notice.
Assesment update:
8 Ball has recently taken a more visible role in Paragon city. It is apparent to our field againts that he is becoming more comfortable in his role as a Super-Hero. He appears more willing to team up with other super powered types in a support role. For these reasons we have raised his threat assesment to a Moderate/High rating.
