Description

Since her arrival, the superheroine known as Valkyrie II is said to be one of the most beautiful women to grace Paragon City. Like all other Valkyries of tradition, she is a blonde exemplar of female beauty and perfection appearing before a dying warrior as his soul is whisked away to the Halls of Valhalla where he is welcomed and served mead. With divine blood coursing through her veins, Valkyrie II boasts perfect skin, piercing blue eyes, and long legs with a perfect blend of feminine svelte, muscularity, and curves. Her movements are graceful and elegant, despite her cold warrior persona. A reputer painter in Paragon City once compared her to art, in which the aesthetic beauty of the woman immortalized in the painting causes a male viewer to fall in love, but he will never feel her warmth in his lifetime. In essence, she remains to many, an ideal of feminine beauty.

Origin

Valkyrie literally means "chooser of the slain", derived from Old Norse valr "the slain" and kyrja "chooser". In Norse mythology, the Valkyries were god-like warrior-maidens who would appear over battlefields of mortal worshippers of the Asgardian gods and choose which of the fallen were worthy of afterlife in Valhalla, the dominion of the honored warriors.

The woman born as Brunhilda Agnarsson is the decendant of the most prominent of the Valkyries, Byrnhildr "The Mail-coat of Battle", who assumed leadership of the Valkyrior in the absence of Freyja. In the Helreid Brynhildar, Odin, the head of the Norwegian gods known as the Aesir, enchanted Byrnhildr into the magical sleep with the Wunsciligerta (the enchanted spindle) as a punishment for her transgression of duties for getting romantically involved with a man named Agnar. She was believed to be the only Valkyrie who left earthly decendents before being restored to her former station by Odin.

Brunhilda was born in Norway and immigrated with her parents to the United States at an early age. Since growing up in the Northwestern regions of the United States, she lived a normal life working as a seamtress for her family's tailoring business. As years go by, her mother went on in becoming a successful fashion designer with a high fashion line called "Rande Agnarsson" and her father business prospered into a leading fashion designing house. Both parents moved back to Europe, while Brunhilda remained in the states.

Brunhilda's latent divine power surfaced near the eve of the Ritki War. As a prelude to the emergence of her divine abilities, Brunhilda was visited in a premonition by a what was believed to be Freyja, Norse goddess of love, fertility and beauty, and sometimes referred to the goddess of battle and death. From what Brunhilda recalled, the apparation touched her head with the tip of her blade, spoke to her in Old Norse, and she saw images of a "city under fire" Henceforth, her life as an ordinary seamstress was forever changed. Such mysterious calling led her to the hotbed of supervillainous activities - Paragon City.

After researching and consulting with her contacts of arcane lore in Paragon City as a fledgling superhero, Brunhilda learned that the being in her dream was most likely the Norse goddess who incited the divinity locked away in her bloodline and caused it to manifest. Many arcane specialists concurred that the large number of superhero deaths from the Ritki War attracted the attention of such ancient gods, and Brunhilda was called upon to perform her role as a "Chooser of the Slain" as her ancestor did to scour the battlefields and guide the souls of Paragon City's greatest warriors to Valhalla.

From her own research, she learned that Freya is said to be the first of the Valkyries, called Valfreya, "Mistress of the Slain," who claimed half of the heroes who were slained in battle and brought them to her realm in Valhalla.

In light of this, Brunhilda has adopted the superheroic name of Valkyrie II in respect to her ancestor Brynhildr's rank in the sisterhood of the Valkyrior and not be confused with the' false' Valkyrie of Paragon City AKA "Valerie Kellum". In her heart, she knows that Freya, although forgotten through time, is the first Valkyrie.

Psychological Profile

Ever since her divinity was sparked off, the transformation changed her from an average girl next door to a "Hand of the Asgardian gods" that was meant to "weave the fate of combat" and claim those who have fallen and worthy.

Valkyrie II's personality could be at best be compared to ice - a disciplined and chaste warrior-maiden uncorrupted and unswayed by the passions and whims of emotion. She remains professional, objective, methodical, and focused in her endeavors to become the best at what she does - to weave the fate of combat with her fighting prowess and live up to Brynhildr's name. A poet once wrote in comparison how she is "chaste as the whitest snow, her womb barren as the frozen tundra, her heart a frozen bastion of the purest warrior ideals devoid of the warmth of compassion."

Never in any case, has she been known to use her feminine wiles to her advantage, and relies solely on skill. In fact, sees the male's vulnerability to a woman's beauty as a fatal flaw to be pitied upon. Based on a Chinese proverb "A man is an invincible warrior until he meets a woman" Valkyrie II sees herself inherently as a woman superior to a male counterpart. Despite a sexist mentality, she does have a deep-seated respect for certain male warriors with a sense of honor. However, the influx of catcalls, gender slurs such as "Babe, Hun" from googled-eyed males and has fueled such sexism much of late.

Many of her superheroic allies sees her as an over-achiever and overly zealous in her warrior-like endeavors. When grouped with others, Valkyrie II normally sets the pace of cutting down the opposition with her fighting prowess. Her hardened warrior-like mentality of "Only the strong survives" and "Kill or be killed" expects those who travel with her to keep up. For this reason, Valkyrie II normally works alone, but has been known to ally herself on a short-term basis with members of other supergroups. She is known to follow the principle and tradition of a strong independent warrior woman. Her heart lies with the Valkyrior, a sisterhood in which her ancestor Brynhildr was the leader, and thus refuses to commit herself to any modern day supergroup, nor any man.

Leisure bears little meaning in her lifestyle. During an interview, when asked what kind of music she liked "It was the song of battle - the clashing of steel on the battlefields, the warcries and deaththroes" she responded. When asked if she knows how to dance, her response was "It was the dance of death with her blade she as she weaves about spinning the fate of battle."

On her down time (if any), she is sometimes seen basking and relaxing in Eden Falls or silently observing the "freaks" and their behavior in Atlas Plaza.

Observed Motives/Objectives:

Losing her ability to sense death and being cut off from Asgard has left Valkyrie II at a lost as to what to use her powers for and direction in life. With the lost of such key powers, she is unable to perform her "calling" to scour the battlefields of her assigned locale and bring chosen fallen warriors to Valhalla. Moreover, the construction of the hospital teleportation matrix in Skyway City has significantly reduced the number of superhero deaths in the city since the end of the Ritki War.

Unlike many reputed supeheroes who act out of altruism for mankind, Valkyrie II acts out of the conventional warrior tradition of strength and honor. Her zeal for battle is notorious for exhausting every one of her contacts of tasks and she doesn't appear to be stopping. Her reasons for doing so has been linked to her rivalry with Valerie Kellum AKA "Valkyrie"

Ever since learning of the other Valkyrie of Paragon City, Valkyrie II has gone on a rampage of exploiting her divine powers to gain reputation. Both women share an intense professional rivalry because of their academic differences on theology based on their personal experiences. It was due to such rivalry, that motivated Valkyrie II to take a more active role as a superhero to get her name out in Paragon City as opposed to the standard practice of a Valkyrie to remain impartial and serve only the will of Odin. For Valkyrie II it has gone even to the point as gaining celebrity status, something her Asgardian progenitors would frown upon.

A Valkyrie is said to only be seen by a warrior who about to die, but such isn't the case here as Valkyrie II has been spotted very frequently. The Valkyrie's aura (said to give off the Aurora Borelis) signifies her presence and can be seen actively moving about the zone's of Paragon City. She forever roaming Paragon City looking for challenges to hone her combat abilities to out-perform her rival.

Strength Level: Valkyrie II possesses superhuman strength and can lift (press) 45 tons.

Known Superhuman Powers:

Valkyrie II possesses the conventional attributes of an "extraplanar being" known as an Asgardian worshipped by ancient Scandavian cultures. She is extremely long-lived, superhumanly strong, immune to all terrestrial diseases, and resistant to conventional injury. Since her transformation upon the manifestation of her latent divine powers, her flesh and bones are about three times as dense as similar human tissue (contributing her superhuman strength and weight). Her superhuman health, metabolism and stamina gives her far greater than human endurance at all physical activities and allows her to recover from her injuries at an increased rate.

According to ancient Norse lore, the Sisterhood of the Valkyrior were "foster-daughters" of Odin. The original Valkyries were born as mortals, handpicked by Odin himself to attend him and serve the cause of the Aesir. As part of their covenant, any maiden who becomes a valkyrie will remain immortal and invulnerable as long as she obey the gods and remain virginal. All Valkyries are married to the will of Odin and the cause of the Aesir.

Valkyrie II's powers of a quasi-goddess has significantly diminished. Some scholars claim that the lack of belief in the old gods from mortals had an adverse effect on the cosmotological forces that such gods drew their divine power from. Others believe that she was too many generations displaced from her divine heritage and her more powerful abilities were affected. One of the key powers lost was the Valkyrie's omniscient ability to perceive and sense the coming of death. Among the Asgardians, the Valkyries were the only one able to see a "deathglow" surrounding a person who is in peril of meeting an untimely demise. Folklore has it that the Valkyrie-prophetesses had capitalize on this precognitive power to weave the fate of battle of mortal worshippers. Another power affected was the ability to transport herself and a dying or dead person from the earth dimension to the extra-dimensional realm of the Asgardians. At the present moment, Valkyrie II's appears to be cut off from the Asgardian domain and all her teleportation activities are confined to earth. A most recent accepted belief claimed by a Scandavian mythology scholar is that it was a stigma of her ancestor Brynhildr's punishment for her transgressions to Odin.

Abilities:

Valkyrie II is a powerful melee combatant skilled in the use of the longspear and sword. The natural fighting prowess of her ancestor Byrnhildr was said to be unsurpassed by Asgardian women and perhaps equaled only by Sif, Thor's wife. Such fighting ability appears to be passed down to Brunhilda, an archaic form of swordplay that is simple, powerful, and effective. A single overhand cleave of hers has been known to fell many mortals in a single blow.
