Introduction:

Subject has been a rather intruiging specimen for Crey personnel. His first sighted activites began almost a year ago with his hero liscence registration. No records exist of a "Knightward" prior to his registration, nor have any records on previous heroes fit his characteristics.

The earliest difficulty with this subject was acquiring a DNA sample. No trace could be found in any location he was in. Biological scans found nothing. This became considerably frustrating when Knightward began assaulting Crey laboratories. Following protocol, Knightward was investigated under the premise of being a robot. Such investigations continued to prove futile. Video and first hand observation was obfuscated by the tangible darkness that Knightward is capable of generating. While details of the exterior could be determined through compiling data, the interior remained a mystery.

Progress as to subject's identity was made after analyzing voice recordings. Despite unusual levels of static and faintness in the recordings, Knightward's dialetic was far too archaic to suggest anything modern, nor did any scans indicate a source of power other than magical means. The sound in these recordings, as well as changes in air pressure when he entered Crey facilities, also suggests that Knightward is infact, hollow.

The ultimate means of determining Knightward's identity came as a fluke. Police records identified a suit of armor near-identical to his composition that was stolen a few months before he became active. The armor itself appeared to be a collector's item; it was constructed in England during the 14th century and was highly valued for its unique design and a story of a soldier who wore it.

Further research into this story pegged its origin at a small rural village in England. A team of investigators posing as tourists went to collect data.

The story indicates a Owain Gilmore, who is regarded as a local folk hero. According to it, Owain Gilmore took part in the Hundred Years War around the time of the Black Death. He was allegedly an expert swordsman and obtained a leave from the military after rescuing a wealthy nobleman. Owain Gilmore was also given the suit of armor as a gift. The story goes on to say that the local lord was opressing the villagers until Owain returned. He is said to have rallied the village and then drove the lord out. This lord snuck back later on and fatally poisoned Owain, but that the folk hero killed him before dying himself.

The dialect, combine with his swordplay, the code of ethics he appears to follow, and unfamiliarity with most technological devices in earlier encounters suggests that Knightward may infact be this Owain Gilmore. This is yet to be confirmed, however it is the only hypothesis we have at this time.

Appearance:

Subject appears to be a medieval suit of armor. Knightward's armor is unique among such antiques in that it is considerably more intricate and ornamental than other armors of that time period. The functionality of his arm and leg spikes were a mystery until personnel observed Knightward fighting the Tsoo. Many of their weapons could be deflected and held between the spikes. Skilled melee combatants shouldn't have a problem with them, but it proves exceedingly useful against amatuers and gang level training.

When Knightward has taken considerable amounts of damage, his armor has been seen in a state of disrepair. It rusts at a surprising rate and his cape has been seen in tatters. However, the damage seems to repair at an equally unusual rate.

Knightward has also been seen with other paint designs, but the suit of armor never changes. This strongly suggests that he is, actually, the armor itself.

As Knightward's control over his body has improved, so too has he become further obscured by darkness when engaging in combat. However, several months after his registration, personnel noted unusual emanations from him. The general consensus of these observations is that it is tendrils of some kind of smoke or mist, but scans have not revealed any energy surges around Knightward or increased condensation. Research has concluded that this "aura" is not a threat and should be ignored.

Psychological Profile:

Knighward, like many heroes, seems to be motivated by a strong sense of "justice." He appears to adhere to a strict chivilric code of honor. Knightward has been observed in certain locations allowing injured freelance Arachnos agents (colloquially referred to as "villains") to escape when he finds them, as well as giving some the opportunity to come face to face with him before beginning combat. Note that these "battlefield ethics" are not observed nearly as often when Knightward has infiltrated the bases of operations for various organizations, Crey included. It is suspected that his etiquette does not extend to combating several opponents simultaniously or when his opponents are on their home turf. Regardless it is apparent that Knightward's code of honor is complex, with a variety of rules and situational conditions. Further observation is highly recommended to find means of exploitation.

While Knightward follows a chivilric code, it does seem to be modified in some areas. While traditional chivalry promotes strong protectiveness and courtesy towards women, Knightward applies it instead to civilians of both sexes. Heroes and law enforcement he seems to regard as equals. Unfortunately it is unlikely that this trait can be used to portray Knightward as a haughty elitist due to an emotional connection he displays with civilians. Most heroes show signs of anger, disgust, and sadness when civilians are endangered or exploited; however anger and disgust become much greater in Knightward by comparison. The probability of Knightward fatally wounding an opponent when he feels civilians are threatened increases by 21.6%, thus it is strongly recommended to securely hide any information about the effects of various Crey projects that Knightward is investigating. If Knightward does indeed have a connection with Owain Gilmore, the oppression spoken of in the story would support this emotional connection.

Particularly in early sightings, subject appeared to suffer from depression. While this clearly didn't interfere with his work as a vigilante, Knightward seemed to do little other than his work nor build social bonds. Compilations of audio recordings suggest that Knightward's depression stemmed from his belief that he is dead. Before this could be used to our advantage, Knightward joined with the Defenders of Paragon. He gradually built more social bonds, and went to greater efforts studying science and technology. Audio recordings of Knightward referring to himself have gradually involved less morbid language and a tone of voice that suggests greater confidence. If subject is still depressed, it is only a mild case now.

If there is a weakness in Knightward's psyche it is that he has a strong desire to do "the right thing." Through careful public relations (preferably from indirect sources rather than overt Crey personnel) he could be guided to working with Crey's goals. While before it might have been possible to drive him into seclusion through alienation and disconnect from the public at large, such a strategy seems unlikely at this time.

Powers and Capabilities:

Knightward has demonstrated a progressive degree of control over his body over time. While his movement was clunky in early sightings, it has become increasingly fluid. He has also demonstrated increasing strength, particularly when it comes to manipulating his own body. He exerts far less effort lifting himself other than objects of similar weight or density, as is evident by his movement speed and jumping height.

Knightward is also a very skilled swordsman, although the style is not consistant with most modern forms of swordplay. Personnel should only approach Knightward in close range when absolutely necessary. Despite a small minority of those he has engaged actually dying, severe injury is universal. Even personnel in various Crey armors have reported concussions when struck by the broad side of Knightward's blade.

Knightward is also capable of generating tangible darkness around himself. This darkness makes him harder to hit and dampens the inertia and energy of anything making contact with him. While other superpowered threats are capable of performing similar feats, Knightward's is unique in that the temperature around him drops approximately 15 degrees Farenheit when he generates it. Many personnel have been frozen in terror when in close proximity to Knightward. In standard psych tests after such encounters, all personnel have reported witnessing, and sometimes experiencing, their own deaths. While the details of these experiences are vague, the emotional intensity is very real. In other encounters Knightward has been known to leap back into the fray after supposedly being incapacitated. Personnel at those encounters have reported feeling "detatched" from their bodies when such happens, almost as though they were nearly ripped from them.

While Knightward's technological aptitude was negligible in his early sightings, it has been improving considerably. Knightward has demonstrated a significant understanding of rocketry and is considered to have access to several Warburg rockets at any given time. He has recently been sighted operating Longbow "heavies" and pillboxes in the dimension known as "Recluse's Victory."

Overall, Knightward's threat rating is of the utmost danger. Do not engage unless absolutely necessary or with a full team of personnel.
