Background: My name is Shane Steelo, I'm 17 years old, I'll be 18 in a few months. I was born here, in Paragon, out in Siren's Call, before Arachnos showed up and made a mess out of everything. Arachnos' presence caused the entire city zone to evacuate, leaving shops and stores abandoned, and the bulk of the residential sector eerily quiet. The only people left were those who could not immediately be mobilized and evacuated out of Siren's Call due to medical conditions, and or physical disability. My mother, who was a Doctor at the local hospital, stayed behind to frantically prepare patients who could not be evacuated from the area immediately. My father, a professor at the University, stayed behind to look after my sister and me.

On the night that my family and I were to finally evacuate Siren's Call on a medical helicopter, Arachnos forces had cut through the Longbow garrison at the docks, and advanced straight through to downtown Sirens; near the hospital. My mother and father stood at the hospital entrance, denying unauthorized entrance to the Wolf spider soldiers. My sister and I watched, as Wolf Spiders shot and murdered our parents.

My twin sister, Gwen and I snuck away and hid in the University library, after having made a quick stop at an abandoned convenience store for food and water. Luckily, patrols seldomly went by the Uni for some odd reason, and we were able to barricade the windows and doors in the event that they did discover us there.

During our stay, we found ourselves spending countless hours reading textbooks, pamphlets, magazines, and thousands and thousands of works of literature that the library housed. I was born with a photographic memory, so the library was incredibly ideal for me to soak up knowledge like a sponge.

Tragically, our sanctuary did not remain safe for long. After a harsh concentration of Arachnos shelling, the University was left almost entirely decimated. I survived the attack. Unfortunately, Gwen did not.

It was after Gwen's death that I decided that the only thing worse than dying is sitting in the library waiting to die. It was at the point that I knew aid was not going to be arriving soon, and it was only a matter of time that Gwen and I would share a similar fate.

I gathered what was left of my belongings, and began the long trek toward the outskirts of Siren's Call alone. I made a stop at a department store to borrow any kind of weapon, should I need to defend myself against Arachnos' goons. I chose a hunting rifle that was entirely too large for me, and took along a few boxes of bullets.

I found out the hard way that it takes 9 or 10 dead-on shots to put down those Arachnobots, and even more shots to put down the drones. I stayed in that department store for a few days, keeping a vigilant watch over my surroundings. The area I was in had a high concentration of patrols, so I had to keep quiet, or they'd discover my presence in that building.

First thing's first though. I had to find an effective weapon that would put down these things that wanted me dead. It seemed odd at first, but the ornamental katanas the department store sold seemed just the thing to put down the Arachnos drones and 'bots quickly and successfully. I had read about samurai tactics, and the proper use of the katana in the University library, so all it took was practice.

Uncannily, it was then under the tremendous amount of strain and effort that my mutant powers manifested themself. The department store had come under attack by an Arachnos battalion attempting to push even further into Siren's Call, toward the Steel Canyon exit. I was taken by complete suprise, and severely wounded by a deadly Arachnobot.

As I laid there on the department store floor, bleeding to death, I sobbed out a prayer. I felt my body go cold, and then immediately start to burn up. At the time, I wondered if this is what death was like. The intense heat radiating from my body felt like there were 5 suns blasting sunlight on all areas of my body.

It was painful at first, but once the heat subsided, I sat up, and examined my wound, which had completely healed. Dumbfounded, I borrowed some clothes from the men's department, and packed up to leave once more.

On the home stretch to Steel Canyon, I tossed away all forms of fear and doubt that I had of dying, or being captured aside, and I just ran. I ran like I had never run before. My mind had only one goal, and that was to make it out of that godawful place alive. I hadn't noticed that most of my clothing, along with my backpack, had burned clean off. All that was left, was shreds of my pants, and my sword, which I had clutched in my hand. As I made my way over to the Longbow garrison, I noticed many of the operatives found my ragged appearance appalling, having not showered in weeks, and being clad in practically nothing, holding a katana sheathed in one hand.

After careful examination, medical attention, new clothes, and food and water, they allowed me to leave Siren's Call, finally...and enter Steel Canyon.

Once there, I realized that I had nobody, and nowhere to go. I was approched by Metal Smith, and Attache who invited me to stay in the Evolution-X Institute for Mutants, where I currently train alongside others like me to better understand their abilities.

I find myself alienated somewhat from these other kids though. I feel that they don't know real tragedy. They don't know real pain. I of course try to hide it as best I can from the teachers and the students, but in actuality, my constant nightmares from the ordeal I suffered through are a constant reminder of the job that still waits to be done back in Siren's Call. I fully intend to return someday, and I will destroy the Arachnos presence that took away everything I loved.
