Known Aliases: SWAT MedBot IX, MedBot Mark 9
See details below.
Threat Assessment: Moderate
Subject has no memory preceding the final activation of the Mark 9 artificial healing device developed for the Paragon City Police Department under the name of the MedBot Project (details to follow). Highly skilled a manipulating electrical fields and through a new devised control suit can directly access electronics. This latter skill can be an asset if candidate can be recruited or a detriment if candidate becomes hostile.
Known History:
Mark Nine was used a living AI linked to a robotic healing device known as MedBot Mark 9. The artificial healing unit, having been leased to First Strike Security, became a major asset to the organization.
As criticals failures became more frequent and serious, it was discovered that the robot was not being colled by a programmed AI, rather through a remote controller, namely mutant self-desiganted "Mark Nine."
The mutant's control of electrical fields and latent telepathy were used to control the robot itself. The onboard processor was used primarily to faclitate communication between the oblivious controller and the robot. In addition, the onboard programming was designed to strip away emotion and personality from the controller and to order the thoughts of the controller into strictly logical patterns.
After a massive critical failure occurred in the MedBot unit while facing the Clockwork King with several First Strike operatives, an attempt to reconnect the controller to the robot allowed First Strike personnel to track the signal.
The signal lead them to the DATA laboratories at City Hall. There a scientist explained that he had been able to have the mutant moved temporarily to these facilities in the process of attempting a cover up of the MedBot Program.
The scientist explained that the mutant was used, essentially as the processor for the robot, kept permanently in a coma like state. Before he could explain who his employers had been, the scientist was assassinated by a very powerful and mysterious assassin who disappeared almost immediately afterwards.
The scientists dying words were instructions were to use a syringe he was carrying to bring the mutant out of the coma and to protect the mutant.
Upon his rescue the mutant, using the robot's designation Mark Nine spent several hours trying to assimilate the idea that he was not actually a robot, but instead an organic human used to control the robot he perceived himself to be.
It was discovered through a highly technological pair of gloves that Mark Nine wore, he could connect to MedBot at will. So began the story of the hero who is of two hearts, but one mind: artifical and organic.
After the gloves were destroyed in an accident, MedBot Mark 9 was hijacked by a new controller, calling itself Mark X. The robot attempted to kill Mark Nine to "eliminate the obsolete processor," but the intercession of First Strike personnel saved Mark's life. In the process MedBot Mark X escaped and has only been seen a handful of times throughout the city.
Mark, who has been steering a course of uncertainty for the first time had a motivation. He was determined to discover who the true creators of the MedBot program were and to prevent them from enslaving more mutants for the program.
Mark enlisted the help of one of the technological wizards at First Strike to help him devise a new control device to try and regain control of Medbot in order to track the location of the new controller.
A suit of armor was created that helped him focus his electrical control as well as to attempt to link to MedBot. During the testing phase of the suit, it was discovered that while he could not locate Medbot's new frequency, he could sense and interact with the digital world around him much as a telepath would with human minds.
Mark continued to struggle with a limited palette of emotions and a near complete lack of cultural reference until his abilities to access electronics were used to help one of his fellow operatives who had become very important to him. During this process Mark forcibly pushed the limits of his latent telepathy to allow their resident mage, The Sly Fox, to see what Mark could through the suit's interface since part of the problem was magic in nature.
The connection to The Sly Fox's mind was not without consequence. A "copy" of all that was The Sly Fox now resided in Mark's head. For several days an eclectic mesh of Mark's almost robotic personality and The Sly Fox's outgoing personality lead him to behave in uncharacteristic ways.
However this connection was a great gift to Mark. For the first time since his memories began with the activation of MedBot only a few months ago, Mark truly understood humanity: emotion, art, beauty, sorrow, joy and love. In addition all the cultural references that The Sly Fox had, Mark too also had access to.
The organization's leader, Contact, was recently able to sort out the mesh of personalities to help remove some of The Sly Fox's more characteristic personality traits from Mark's own personality. Mark has since quickly developed into his own unique being, having the memories of a robot, his own organic experiences without the perspective of emotion, as well as all of The Sly Fox's memories.
Mark now goes forward, a complete individual, with the ultimte goal of shutting down the MedBot Project and bringing it's creators to justice.
All of Mark's abilities stem directly from his sensitivity to electrical fields. He uses these abilities both offensively and defensively. He has also discovered how to expel the energy in such a way as to propel him forward at incredible speeds. Through careful manipulation of electrical fields he has also discovered that he can reduce the pull of gravity on his body allowing him to leap incredible distances or to fall over a dozen stories without coming to harm.
A latent telepathy has turned out to be a key in the control systems of MedBot and the new suit he wears. This latent telepathy usually very limited, was forcibly pushed beyond any pre-conceived limits during an effort to save a fellow operatives life. Still unable to read or affect minds as a true telepath can, stressful situations can make him sensitive to concepts or emotions of an individual.
