Threat History
He was once just one of the cities shining socialites and entrepreneurs. Alex Zafiro very suddenly decided to take to the life of a super hero. The reasons for such a change remain unknown to us. Though he is known for his unpredictability this new persona seems to clash with what we know about Zafiro being a somewhat cold elitist.
*Update*Recent investigation has discovered the moment that inspired Alex Zafiro to become the King of Spades through an overheard conversation. After leaving a cocktail party early, Zafiro decided to walk home on a whim. He was enjoying the night and peering into the minds of passersby for his own amusement when he heard a mental cry for help. Out of curiosity he followed it to a dark alleyway where he found a girl subdued by a man intending to rape her.
Mr. Zafiro mentally incapacitated the assaulter easily and went to comfort the woman who was in shock. He created the illusion that both were in a well-furnished study sitting before a fire and he began to talk to her. However, he became too focused on the girl and felt the psychic impression of the attacking would-be rapist too late. Zafiro turned to face the man but with little time to use his telepathy. In the heat of the moment, his telekinesis revealed itself, knocking the gun upwards and giving Zafiro time to enter the gunman’s mind.
Afterwards, Zafiro called his chauffeur to escort the woman home and left the rapist in the alleyway thinking he was a ten year old girl in a ballet recital. The event seemed to give Zafiro something he had been searching for ever since he won his comfortable position among the wealthy. Apparently, he had felt unfulfilled in his socialite status but the act of doing something for another – for once – filled the uncomfortable void he’d been trying to hide. However, in the observed conversation by which we received this information, Zafiro quickly shrugged off the overly serious idea that doing good deeds fulfills his life. He says simply that for the first time he saw heroics as an excellent source of potential contacts and adventure. It seems he would rather make his choice to be a hero seem like a whim rather than noble. However, as is often the case with Mr. Zafiro, it seems he is keeping his true thoughts on the matter to himself.
Alex was then seen aiding The Imperial in a mission. The experienced hero's virtuous personality and dedication had an effect on Mr. Zafiro. He began to take up his own heroic efforts and took on his alias.
The following quote from Zafiro is his quick explanation for his choice to dub himself The King of Spades:
“Well, I always wanted to be a King. I’m certainly close enough already. And I always have looked excellent in black.”
His recent "coming-out" as a mutant may explain much his sudden financial success in 1998, as his power appears to be telepathy. It should be noted that in business dealings, Zafiro has often held much classified information, which have allowed him to achieve a certain edge that has won him success. We cannot be certain that he used his powers to gain such information but it seems highly likely. We advise any further meeting to be via phone.
In 1998 he became a financial success at the age of 19. At the time he was thought to be a financial genius, buying and selling the right stocks and the perfect time and reaping the rewards. In 1999 he moved to a penthouse apartment in Founder’s Fall. We know nothing prior to this. Though we know him to be from white middle class suburbia we have no school records of him and nothing to guess where he would have been during that time. We assume this is due to his own tampering with his past. He must have something important to hide and the investigation will continue.
In 2003 King of Spades underwent a project with an odd group of individuals. It was a business investment but also a supergroup designed to do good. They called themselves the City Watch and they were very successful for two seasons, also become notable heroes in that time as well as friends. However, with the disappearance of many of its core members the team HQ has been emptied though Zafiro has made sure to purchase the building and keep it unoccupied if the day should ever arise when they come back together. The group helped King of Spades become a much more focused hero and gave him many contacts in the the hero community. Though solo, he uses his power and resources to help others and sometimes still himself.

Typical Combat Appearance: Unlike many of the other heroes of Paragon, King of Spades forgoes the usual cape and bright colored tights. He prefers clothing of high quality and that suit his expensive tastes. He’s often scene wearing a custom-made leather top made by one of his fashion contacts, ash-grey pants, and Italian leather shoes. He’s also been known to wear a sapphire blue suit with a red tie. These outfits of are often accessorized with matching sunglasses and knowing him they are just as expensive.

Tactical Analysis
Metahuman Powers: The upper limits of his telepathic powers remain unknown to us but he is certainly a telepath of a very high order. Units sent in for observation have returned lacking any memory and often suffering from some delusional states, mental regression, or totally catatonic. During battle he relies heavily on telepathy, preferring to take a hands-off approach by controlling the victim's body or toying with their minds (sometimes in a very inappropriate manner).
Zafiro also shows signs of telekinetic abilities. Though capable, these powers don’t appear to be as strong as his telepathy. He uses these powers to fly, throw or disarm his opponents, and shield his allies. A great use of these abilities have be known to put a strain on him and it takes great mental concentration for his telekinesis to come close to matching the damage potential of other heroes.
Fighting Skills: King of Spades does not appear to have any skills in hand to hands combat. He prefers to fight from afar using his telepathy and when necessary he will create that distance using his telekinesis.
Other Special Skills & Abilities: He is a cunning businessman and a socialite with vast amounts of contacts as well as holding a large personal fortune.
Special Limitations: King of Spades is not adept at contending with robotic opponents as his mental powers have little effect on them.

Transportation: When not flying to a scene, King of Spades is driven by one of his chauffeurs in a Rolls Royce. He has also been scene alone behind the wheel of a Jaguar Roadster.

Strategic Analysis
Recommended Action(s): King of Spades involvement in the hero community has led us to conflict with him many times. He seems to enjoy the role and has risen to be a threat. Do to this danger, it is suggested his full origins be discovered and he be dealt with when possible.
Considering he is a highly capable telepath any confrontation or investigation should be taken with special precaution. Mental blocks must be placed. When engaging him in combat the best course of action is to rush and overpower him before he uses his telepathy. An attack by a physically more powerful opponent or many will strain his telekinetic abilities and leave him open to be dealt with. Caution is highly recommended and only a well-prepared team should engage the King of Spades.
