Threat 7420
NOTE: Classified, Level 4
Grace Angélique Courbier alias Alumette
Threat Class: High (upgraded June 2006)
Current Status: Active
Report Filed: May 18, 1999
Last Updated: July 2006
Report Compiled by Agent: 0042
Abstract: Threat is trained in the arcane/occult arts, and shows great aptitude. Threat is in superb physical condition and possesses a combat stamina/resistance to injury that seems disproportionate to her build and size. This is further enhanced by the use of pyrokinetics and force of will to inflict damage on opponents and increase strength and durability by a considerable margin. Threat is employed by supergroup: Dawn Patrol, and is in an extended romantic relationship with Threat 5331 (Dominic Jackson alias Stalking Shadow).
Physical Description

Distinguishing Features: n/a
Combat Appearance: Threat’s standard combat uniform includes a durable black leather jacket and pants, both with a purple flame motif, and matching purple gloves and boots. Whether or not threat’s uniform material has been modified or treated for fireproofing is unknown. Threat always wears a silver and garnet necklace (Cross Reference FP 110904), whether on- or off-duty.
Threat also wears a standard-issue Dawn Patrol uniform, usually when working as part of a Dawn Patrol strike force.
Non-Combat Appearance: Threat generally wears low-rise yoga pants or jeans, and fitted “babydoll” style shirts in darker colors: threat tends to favor purple and black-hued clothing. Threat has often been seen off-duty in classically-designed bunny slippers, and her hair is naturally curly, although she seems to prefer to wear it straight most of the time. Most recent reconnaissance data reports that Threat's preferred fragrance is Roberto Cavalli's Oro
Abilities
Threat is capable of manipulating fire and what is typically described as pure energy. She can summon fire at will. This manifests either as a shield of flame around her body, or a patch of fire on the ground beneath a group of opponents. The flame armor provides additional combat protection, and is supplemented by a secondary shield of energy that appears to protect her from some psychic attacks as well as temperature extremes. She can use both sets of shielding together or separately, depending on combat conditions.
Threat also can channel energy into her hand-to-hand combat techniques, providing additional force to her strikes. The force behind her attacks is such that she has a strong probability of stunning an opponent with a single punch.
Modus Operandi
Threat's modus operandi tends to emphasize direct confrontational strategies when alone or teamed. Threat typically engages opponents directly, often verbally goading them into battle. Her small size is to her advantage, as opponents often underestimate her ability to resist injury in combat. She can engage a large group of opponents in this manner, which enables her teammates to gain an offensive advantage.
When facing exceptionally large groups, Threat may engage a few foes at a time, luring them to her position by inciting them to attack. Threat seems to have a keen sense of the psychological game, given her knack for drawing opponents into battle.
Threat’s resistance to injury often makes her overconfident. She has been known to rush into combat seemingly unprepared, as if she had made an insufficient assessment of the combat situation. In these instances she is often easily overrun. This has also been observed in team situations, with disastrous consequences.
Threat makes up for a slow rate of fire with ample use of technique, presence, and physical endurance. However, when soloing, given her limited offensive ability, it is worth noting that combat often becomes a question of attrition with regard to her stamina vs. her opponent’s.
Psychology
Threat has a history of suffering from recurring nightmares, most likely flashbacks to the night she committed arson, murdering 263 people (Cross Reference Paragon Times archive: May 18, 1999. Cross Reference PCPD Report Archive 3248-9905). Recently her nightmares seem to be under control, and may have ceased altogether.
Threat also suffered from inexplicable, but severe acrophobia. However a reconnaissance report dating from February 14, 2005, indicates that Threat 7420 and Threat 5331 were seen skydiving outside the city. Since that time, Threat 7420 has shown no symptoms of acrophobia.
In combat, her obsessive tendencies lean toward perfectionism. She will often take full blame for an unsuccessful skirmish or mission, even when she has little or no responsibility for the failure.
Threat shows manic and some obsessive tendencies. She seems to be disorganized and restless. Her moods tend to shift rapidly, and she develops deep emotional attachments: most definitely an easily-exploited weakness. It is interesting to contrast this with Threat 5331’s psychological profile:
(from Assessment of Threat 5331: Dominic Jackson, alias Stalking Shadow) Threat [5331]'s sang-froid presents an interesting foil to Threat 7420's nearly manic tendencies. Where the latter is a woman composed of quickly changing colors, the former is a man composed of nothing but shades of gray.
Co-workers and associates have referred to her as a sensitive, and extremely passionate person.
Background
Grace Angélique Courbier was born out-of-wedlock on March 1, 1980, to French parents in Biot, France. Shortly after her birth, she and her father emigrated to the United States, and settled in Paragon City. Her mother is presumed dead.
Medical and school records indicate that Courbier suffered from blackouts throughout her childhood that seem to have disappeared around the time of her entrance into MAGI for training. Her school performance was consistently unremarkable, and her education does not extend past high school.
On May 18, 1999, Courbier was responsible for the arson that destroyed the Empire nightclub in Kings Row. Charges for the 263 killed in the fire were never filed. MAGI agents intervened on her behalf, and she entered training immediately thereafter to develop her skill in the arcane arts.
Around this time, her father disappeared without a trace. Anecdotal evidence from Courbier’s associates indicates he was involved with the Circle of Thorns shortly before his disappearance. His current whereabouts are unknown.
At the time of the Rikti invasion, Courbier was still undergoing intensive training at MAGI. Little is known of her life at this point, as MAGI’s considerable security systems routinely foil our intelligence attempts. However, medical records indicate that she was hospitalized for several days during the invasion, having fallen into a sudden coma from which she recovered seemingly without any effect. The coma had a similar pathology to her childhood blackouts, although it was by far the most severe. The cause of the coma is unknown.
After the Rikti Invasion, Courbier became a registered hero with the supergroup, the Dawn Patrol. [Cross Reference: The Dawn Patrol] Since July 2004, Courbier’s exploits have been those of a typical hero. She rose quickly through the ranks in Dawn Patrol, and appears to have an exceptionally high level of loyalty to the organization.
Towards the end of August, Courbier’s relationship with Jackson began to take on a more romantic aspect. September saw them on a weeklong vacation in Provence, France; during which Courbier was observed to have been in several long meetings with the Dream Doctor. Courbier and Jackson also foiled a potential terrorist attack on the Louvre while abroad. In November, both Jackson and Courbier moved into an upscale apartment at 112 Williams Square, Founder's Falls.
Since then, Courbier has engaged in routine patrols and missions. In February of 2005, Jackson was transferred to Dawn Patrol's Britain headquarters, but in the last week of April 2005, dropped off the radar altogether. Jackson's implication in the disruption of a Contrapasso facility during this time (see Contrapasso, see also Threat 5331 Stalking Shadow)indicates he was dosed with the drug prior to his return to active duty in Paragon City in May of 2005.
Courbier spent much of her time in recent months developing her charity operations (see Courbier Foundation), which seem to be legitimate. The charities focus on providing meals and education/job training to the homeless, particularly children; and also to delivering medical supplies and prevention education to third-world countries. (see file video: Paragon Morning Interview, March 2006).
During Jackson's extended absence while investigating Contrapasso (cross-reference "Vitriol," Jackson's name for the substance), Courbier has focused on her charities, her cooking show (see Bonjour Cuisine with Alumette), and her routine heroing duties. She has also re-established a connection with Dawn Patrol, developing recruiting efforts.
We have seen a marked increase in her interactions with other heroes since Jackson's disappearance in January of 2006 while investigating Contrapasso/Vitriol in North Korea. He is presumed dead. Courbier has since been associating more closely with Dawn Patrol, and registered heroes Chain Lightning (Threat #194), Crimsonstar (Threat #13870), Corner Stone (no file available), and others.
Courbier, with the help of Chain Lightning (Threat #194), recently foiled a scheme by former Crey scientist Dr. Arnold Janst (aka Dr. Alessandro Giacomo) involving the genetic alteration of grains used in bakeries that supply bread to large institutions such as schools and shelters (Market's Pride). Courbier's intervention disrupted the entire operation; Countess Crey ordered the project shut down and she cut off all ties with the doctor.
Having observed a marked increase in Courbier's investigative skills, a new boldness in her crimefighting tactics, and a newly-extended hero network; in addition to her (unconfirmed) connections to Contrapasso through Threat 5331's investigations, we are increasing our surveillance and upgrading her threat class to High.
During mid-June of 2006, Courbier took an extended leave from Dawn Patrol and her heroing duties. She left no contact information, and seemed to have disappeared utterly for two weeks. Her apartment was unoccupied during that period, but no travel records exist for her during that time. A few witnesses claim to have seen her vacationing at a lake cottage in upstate New York, but their statements are unconfirmed.
